Field Education
St. James School is fortunate to be located in one of the largest cities in America with resources that promote and help define the learning experiences of our students. Each grade level has field experiences that are designed to promote inquiry in our students and discover their God given passions.
For students to gain the greatest benefit, field education is thoughtfully chosen and relates to standards, curriculum and the students’ interests. At. Our teachers use best practices by introducing a field education experience in advance and providing opportunities for the students to apply new concepts and information in the days after the experience.
On the day of the event, teachers actively engage the students by discussing the context and their observations, and by encouraging the children to explore, question and think critically about their experience. Photographs are taken to record the day and create a reflection piece with the students. The field education continues in the classroom as the teacher integrates it into learning.
