This fall we are asking all of our first – eighth graders to bring one non-perishable food item to chapel each Wednesday. All of these first fruit offerings will be given to Lakeview Pantry to support their mission to feed Chicago. On September 30 Sarah Martinez shared her concern in this presentation to the assembly.

While America is a wealthy country there are still 48.1 million Americans who live in food insecure households. Of these, 68%, or 32.8 million, are adults and 32%, or 15.3 million, are children. In Cook County alone 24.5% of children live in Poverty and in Chicago 1/3 of all children lived in poverty in 2010.

In spite of all of the affluence today almost 662,000 children don’t get enough to eat every day, and 20% of these children many days don’t even get one healthy meal. They range from all ages from toddlers to teens. They are kids just like us.

By donating and bringing your offering to chapel you can help Feed Chicago so kids and their families will not go hungry. In the Bible it states in Proverbs 19:17 “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.”
