Year End Appeal
Betting On The House
“On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.“
Matthew 16:18
While the world and our communities continued to suffer from fear, confusion and general chaos, Christ’s community, St. James, flourished. By flourish, I mean, served more and more human beings with the Good News of Jesus Christ! Our teachers, God bless them, continued to creatively overcome Covid challenges to teach our students. We have a line of families wanting to attend our school! We added a much-needed associate pastor to serve specifically our families and youth. We were able to begin a ministry to serve the tens of thousands of college students who live just blocks away. Young families, young couples, single young professionals, and others not only began to attend our various events but have volunteered to serve as Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, and room parents.
While some might report that people are less interested in God’s church or Jesus’ Good News, I wouldn’t bet on that! I have seen the opposite. People are tired, searching, and some are even scared. They need the peace of a God who died for them. They need the hope of Jesus who is risen from the grave. If you were to ask me who I would bet on in terms of surviving Covid and these crazy times, I would put all my money on God’s house and St. James.
Thank you for the many ways you have participated in God’s mission and ministry. As you conclude the year, giving thanks to God, please consider joining me in an end of the year gift to St. James that benefits so many people now and in the future.
How is God calling you to participate in His service to Chicago through St. James?
In Christ, Pastor Hess
Principal Appeal Letter
This past year has been unexpected to say the least. When the world seemed to be falling apart, our school relied on God to navigate the uncertainty and provide a safe place for our students to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually! I am so grateful to our community that has come together and worked through the obstacles to make our school a place not only for our students, but their families.
God has provided us all with time, talent and treasures and we are so grateful to our staff and families for their generous sharing of their gifts. God has blessed us! As we close out 2021, please consider joining me in participating in the ministry of St James by giving a year end gift to continue growing our community in Christ.

What is the Goal of the Year End Appeal?
We have set a goal of $100,000. In fact, the value of tuition aid offered is much higher than that. When you generously support this effort, you directly impact the lives of others.
How much should I give?
You should determine your gift on the basis of prayer and reflection upon the blessings God has provided to you to use to His glory. Every gift is a personal decision and should be determined with a joyful heart that you are supporting the various ministries at St. James.
Where should I send my pledge/gift?
You can give via check, cash, electronic (via Realm), and by stock!
Send your check or order money payable to St. James Lutheran Church and School (with Year End Appeal in the memo) to:
St. James Lutheran Church
2101 N Fremont
Chicago IL. 60614
Can a donor make a stock gift?
Yes, stock is a convenient way of giving. Many donors make donations with gifts of appreciated securities. If you are considering a transfer of securities please contact Martha Bulin at mbulin@stjames-lutheran.org or Dot Minogue at office@stjames-lutheran.org for stock transfer instructions.
